an ok HOG story is meh...
i like the sound effects of the game

i didnt like the hitbox of the items... sometimes cant hit it even with spamming

i give it 5/10

still worth playing if u get it off a bundle and u really like HOGs...

i recommend getting it off a bundle
i dont recommend it for the full price. This isn't a terrible game, though it did irritate me a couple of times across the 3+ hours I spent with it - once again I wish there was a "whatever" or "neutral" choice, rather than just thumbs up or down. Deadwood is simple and direct, without the customary frills of Hidden Object Games right now - no map, no penalty for loose clicking, no achievements; just a very basic game and a hint button that seems intended to be pressed freely, and often. Also no collectibles, so I'm not sure in what way this is a Collector's Edition. \/shrugs

What others say is true: some of the objects are exceptionally hard to click on - there's one pair of scissors that led me in particular on a merry chase, more than once too, and an errant hourglass and a few other objects were also quite hard to get. And there's a lot of go-try-it-again play, going back to search in locations already visited. As the cursor doesn't spontaneously indicate active areas, this involves a lot of random clicking. Overall it's a quick and tidy experience, in which I rarely felt I had enough information to avoid leaning on hints for the next step forward. I put this on top of there why? Just because? Well, whatever. Sound was a bit muddled, but that may have been my aging box.

There's some good variety in the approach to hidden object scenes: sometimes outlines, sometimes descriptions, and other times just a dozen or so objects of a type. The assets themselves are used more than once, without regard to context, so there are ballet slippers in the crypt and also in the library (just an example, I don't recall if the slippers are in those actual locations). That always bugs me some. Deadwood may work best as a beginner's game for a precocious kid to play; as a HOG fan, I found it a little bland and arbitrary.. Average HOG ........ Riddled with basic technical errors, such as silhouettes in a list overlapping each other so you can hardly tell what you're supposed to find, and items in a hidden object scene not registering as found unless you click in precisely the right place. The highlight was one HO scene with a belt arranged in a loop, which was not only half hidden behind the interface, but the game wouldn't accept that I found it until I clicked the empty space in the middle of the loop.

Might be forgiveable if the rest of the game was good, but the story is bland and the puzzles are incredibly lazy. A lot of them involve finding the pieces of a lock, and then suddenly the lock turns into a really bad jigsaw puzzle and you have to put the pieces together, because anything more complicated would be too difficult to program, or something.

I played the whole thing (about 2 hours long) because I apparently have no better outlet for my newfound masochistic tendencies. Don't be like me.. It took me 2.6 hours to finish this game in +hints mode. It's a traditional point and click adventure with a horror setting.
In this game to make progress in story mode you will have to go through some mini puzzle games like, find the objects, match the objects, match the broken pieces etc and sometimes this puzzle games can be very tiring and repetitive. Like all other point and click adventure game you will have to collect the right item and use it for the right situation. There is nothing new.
Story is not that good and voice acting is so-so. But, background music is good. This game's music will give you the horror feeling and it matches with the game perfectly.

In the end I kinda enjoyed this game in my own way. I think its a good puzzle/educational game for kids and they will definitely enjoy this game. To be honest the current price for this game is kinda high. But, buy this game if its for your kid or in sale or in bundle.. This game was a lot of fun if you like hidden objects games. The story line is good and a lil creepy. Makes your mind think . Thumbs up!. This is a great HOG for newbies. I got it for 21 cents and I think it is just an easy HOG that I can play when I have a few mintues to relax. I am not big on puzzles, so YAY for the easy ones. I have been playing HOGS for years and if you can get this cheap it is worth it. Also, the items you get from the hidden object spots are not always predictable like in other HOGS. That, at least, is a bonus. I guess if you are a serious HOG player you should steer clear, but if you just like to relax to a fun HOG this is for you!. This isn't a terrible game, though it did irritate me a couple of times across the 3+ hours I spent with it - once again I wish there was a "whatever" or "neutral" choice, rather than just thumbs up or down. So a hidden object game, and if you know the genre you probably know what to expect more or less - the story is fairly perfunctory, the few animations of characters are bad, the hidden object scenes are decent if overused, the in game logic is as random as nearly all such games - one minute you are psychically picking up and keeping items you have no idea you need yet (at least in this case you could argue some slight justification in the story for this), the next you seem to have thrown away the last 15-20 hammers you have picked up during the story so far and now need another one, etc.

The main good points here are that the graphics are pretty decent, none of the scenes will really have you squinting to try and determine what something is, the point and click segments mostly make sense and flow from each other without having to backtrack too much.

The weaker points are the lack of a map and the hint system is very general (it tells you what you need to do next accurately, but it isn't always obvious where you have to go or where to find an item it says you need) - the lack of map isn't too bad though, as the game is fairly linear and you tend to mostly work in one area at a time, and it does have the plus of making it slightly more immersive than in other games in the genre where you just end up teleporting around chasing exclamation marks. The mini game puzzles are also very easy pretty much across the board, so don't expect to really stretch your brain here.

It is perfectly playable (and currently ridiculously cheap), so if you want another HOG then this is a perfectly acceptable option if you aren't too picky.
