About This Game

In the Year 106 AD the Roman Empire is in terrible decline. After the untimely death of the much-loved Emperor Trajan, the despotic Emperor Arruntius has bled the once powerful Rome to its knees. Poorly fought wars, famine, and plague are rife in all corners of the Empire, whilst the Emperor and his elite enjoy every excess and vice that the emptying coffers can afford. As herald to this age of degeneration, Arruntius has destroyed large portions of the city of Rome to create the battleground for the bloodiest gladiator event ever staged…

- An epic cinematic adventure ranging from the streets of Rome to the paradise of Elysium.

Weapons:
- Use authentic weaponry on your foes!

Combat:
- Huge variety of opponents – from brutal guardsmen to mythical creatures.
- Intuitive ‘in context’ fighting style incorporating an advanced multiple-opponent combat system.
- Gain experience through combat! – the more you kill, the more abilities you learn.
- Finish him! – When stunned, your enemy is open to a specialized and gory display of battle.

I loved the 1st level of the game back in ~2004 but I had a fatal error which prevented me from finishing this game. TBH I think I was lucky since I didn't see the trash called levels 2,3 and onwards.
-Camera and controls are trash.
-2 types of challenge missions: 1 = created by mentally handicapped for other mentally handicapped where you have enough time to complete the challenge 3 times... Why is it even called a challenge? 2 = break goddamn barrels/vases/whatever. Cluncky controls make it quite hard but if you try enough times you will probably be ok. But then you stumble into a chalenge with 3 times more barrels...
-Combat mechanics are just bad. Spam switch target till you get enough energy for herculian power, activate it spam attack, get max gauge, continue spamming 1 button, repeat as soon as you have the power again. If you don't use the power, or use another power prepare to waste whole your life in 1 battle because the enemies are beefy and love blocking.
-Bosses/mini bosses/regular foes. None of them is a challenge... Fobos is a joke srsly. Just another timewasting on the way to something (the actual storyline is all in the cutscenes before and after level 1). You won't get anything else.
-Puzzles were made by another talented guy =) probably he/she thought that he is making a game for <70 IQ.
-Collectables :D well if you collect all titan tablets, you will get another barrel challenge with some 15 of them for some 100 sec :D
animations and graphics are ok, levels are mediocre. Atmosphere? Well, there is none after level 1, unless you think a hundred of caves packed with skeletons/shadows/lizard-something guys/flame-something guys and ape-like cyclopses is atmospheric.

P.S. achievements are broken. Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance is an okay classic game, so let’s story now.

The year is 106 AD and the Roman Empire is in terrible decline, because of the death of the beloved Emperor Trajan, and the rise of the cruel and evil Arruntius. Because of him there have been poorly fought wars, famine, and plague hitting all the corners of the once great Empire of Roman.

You play as Invictus Thrax a Gladiator who before Emperor Trajan death was going to be given freedom. But because of Emperor Trajan death and the rise of Emperor Arruntius, Invictus Thrax changes of freedom is gone.

And he is soon killed in the mad tyrant’s colosseum. But this is not end far from it; the gods themselves need Invictus Thrax to save Roman.

So like’s talk about the good and bad of the game, first the good. The story why’ll it is a simple revenge plot it nice for what it was. The combat was nice and fast paste, but it could get a little dull at the end.

The weapons and power ups were fun to use. The voice acting was well done and I liked the executions you could do.

All right now for bad/annoying, the achievements for the game are broken accept for the story achievements.

And there are just five bosses in the whole game and they are the same boss two bosses, what mean is you fight two gods Phobos and Deimos and the last boss being both of them.

There should have been a bit more bosses and unique enemies in the game, and I know some people that don’t know may say that would make this game a God of War rip off.

But this game came out before God of War so adding a bit more bosses and unique enemies would have made the game a bit better. Combat was all right but could get a bit dull in time.

With that all done this game is an okay classic, with some fun game play, an okay story. So if you want a Hack and Slash set in Romany times this is for you.. A very fun, simple game. The boss battles could have been a bit more imaginative, and they can be frustrating at times (you'll see when you play). Minor issue with high screen resolution, giving me a black bar across the upper part of the screen, but never missed anything important.

Racking up the kills with a high fight gauge is highly satisfying!. I played the hell out of this game when it was first released, so it was nice to find it again on Steam -- and at a discount. It looks like the game has been updated to work better with modern systems, so it looks great at 1920x1080 and runs smoothly on my archaic gaming laptop. It's your basic hack-and-slash set in ancient Rome. I've been playing it with my Xbox 360 wireless controller, and it controls well. The only slight critcism is not knowing which button presses go along with on-screen prompts, but it's not too hard to figure out. For the price, you're getting a great game that plays well in 2018.. Racking up the kills with a high fight gauge is highly satisfying!. In simple terms this game is a janked up GoW. Now that is understandable because this came out a few years before Santa Monica Studios came out with the first God of War game. Give this game a shot if you would like to know how a drunk Kratos would fight.

*5 achievements are broken for the Steam version of this game and it looks like they will never be fixed. Avoid this game if that bothers you.*. Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance is an okay classic game, so let’s story now.

Good story, gore combat, finishers, weapon upgrades, variety of enemies, etc
And not only that, they added trading cards and achievements so it's more enjoyable

The negative thing is that mouse players are fu*ked. There is no support for mouse. It seems like the company who decided to re-launch this old title (Acclaim entertainment was the original developer) is forcing you to buy a controller lol. I remember playing this game back in 2003 with mouse without problems
